Really great place, has an awesome Blues bar vibe (seeing as thats exactly what it is). They have a lot to pick from on the menu from smoked meat to BBQ chicken, to liver steak. They have an awesome smoked meat pasta, that they do a special on each week. Buy 1 get one for $1, which is a deal you cant pass up. They also sell slabs of smoked meat, which are very reasonably priced. Its a great place to stop off at on your way in or out of the city, and will keep you full for the day!
Couple of things; if this review was purely about the smoked meat, it would be a 5 star review, but it's not. The smoked meat is very good, both the medium and lean options are tender and juicy, the fries are good but need lots of salt. So that's the good stuff. Now, this place is very expensive, over $50 for very basic sandwiches with fries, 2 adults and 2 kids, nothing large or overwhelming. I find it ridiculous that the adult meals come with a choice of drinks (again, nothing fancy, just a bottle of water from Costco worth 10 cents or fountain soda, no refills) but the kids are not even offered a cup of water. Lastly, the ordering system is retarded: you line up at the cash and order, and the waitress somehow finds you and brings you food. Seems really not efficient and I hate standing in line. Are you a fast food or a sit down restaurant? Decide. You have the worst of both options, because once you've sat down and you've got your food, say goodbye to any service. It's not like you have a glass of water the waitress can fill, anyways.
Decent smoked meat. Portions are quite generous. Prices are fair. The spaghetti is a nice comfort food although overly salty at times. Not a big fan of the ordering process: you have to place an order at their sole cash counter and wait for the waiter/tress to bring you the food. This can cause delays at times. Great alternative to other fast food joints if you need to grab a late night bite.
Overrated smoked meat restaurant! I've worked over 2 1/2 years in the smoke meat industry and eating for over 12 years in different places, Pete's is not comparable to Schwartz's. The people who wrote it's better than Schwartz's have no clue what is smoked meat, as I meet unexperienced people in the past thinking and pretending they know the product to finally say "wow better than Schwartz's" I'm just laughing out of my mind.When I got my sandwich one slice of bread was very small/narrow I couldn't eat correctly as the meat would fall. The slice was the bottom part, thinking I wasn't going to notice. I guess they taught it's better to save a few pennies over a client's satisfaction! What he was thinking when he assembled the sandwich. Fries not so good and barely a handful trying to save money there for a few pennies. I worked with people with this mindset in the past and I'm telling you the worst customer service and satisfaction thinkers!
Five stars for the smoke meat and only one for the service!!! Today was the second time I was there hoping that someting changed... Last time I waited about 45 min to be served, today - 52 min... You have to LOVE this meat to wait about an hour to be served!!!
